Captain Marvel - 10. Mind Over Matter (32% Very Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward Triangle, Down Back O, Triangle, Back Square, Down Square, X, Square, Square, Back Forward O

Jump Smack Down (Jump Forward Triangle)
Solomon Escape / Jump Smack Down (Down Back O, Triangle)
Sky Scraper (Back Square)
Low Punch (Down square)
Hurtful Justice (X, Square, Square)
Mercury Bearing Hug (Back Forward O)

1/31/09 - 6:00 PM - This move took me half the day to complete. This is one of those moves where you need to move forward a bit to complete the rest of the Kombo. Below are the steps:

1. By now you should be comfortable with the Jump Smack Down to Solomon Escape. See my Stroke of Genius post for a technique to do this as one move: http://mkdc-pro-moves.blogspot.com/2009/01/captain-marvel-9-stroke-of-genius-30.html

2. Remember to immediately press the Triangle after the Escape move to get the second Smack Down.

3. Time the Sky Scraper (Back Square) for when your opponent begins their descent.

4. OK, now for the hard part. To actually connect the low punch you have to move Captain Marvel forward a step and time the huge Sky Scraper punch so that you hit the opponent right before they hit the ground. This takes practice to time.

5. OK, now the even harder part. I found it extremely difficult to begin the Hurtful Justice sequence after the low punch. After practicing and practicing I found that: A) I did not need to move Captain Marvel forward again to get the first knee to land. B) I needed to press X, Square, Square quickly after the low punch but it would not work if I pressed X multiple times to try to start this sequence. You need to press X, Square, Square and nothing else and do it quickly. If you find yourself pressing these buttons multiple times stop and practices these first. That's what I had to do to get confident in pressing them deliberately but quickly after the low punch. Even doing this I still had low success rates.

6. You should probably practice the X, Square, Square, Back Forward O all together before you try and do the whole thing. These all need to be pressed in sequence with no other button interferance and done quickly.

This move is so hard. I'm hoping someone out there can post a reply to share some successes.

Captain Marvel - 9. Stroke of Genius (30% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward Triangle, Down Back O, Triangle - Square, Square, O, Down Back O, X

Jump Smack Down (Jump Forward Triangle)
Solomon Escape / Jump Smack Down (Down Back O, Triangle)
Punted Death (Square, Square, O)
Solomon Escape / Jump Kick (Down Back O, X)

1/31/09 5:35 PM - OK, this Kombo is difficult but can be practiced enough to where it becomes much easier. Beware of using this move against opponents that like to use the uppercut a lot. This one leaves you vunerable since you start off with a Jump Smack Down which requires you to hit your opponent towards the decent of your jump. Here are the steps:

1. To initiate this move you start with a Jump Smackdown, as mentioned above. You then need to immediately execute the Solomon Escape. I have a technique that works well for me.while I'm in the air jumping towards my opponent I have the tip of my thumb on the Triangle button. As I'm about to press Triangle for the smack down, I begin rolling the directional pad down back. While I'm doing that I press triangle to initiate the smack down. By the time I'm ready to immediately press O with the bottom part of my thumb I've completed the directional down back. In other words you can be starting your directional pad for the next move while your are completing yoru first move. Does that make sense? Practice this until it feels like one move.

2. By now you must be used to pressing triangle after the Solomon Escape to initiate another smack down. This is time is no different.

3. The last attack sequence needs to be done with consecutive immediate timing and is worth practicing on it's own. Any extra attack buttons pressed or pauses will cause this Kombo to fail. This part is not overly difficult but just needs to be done accurately. Practice simply pressing: Square, Square, X, Down Back O quickly and deliberately. Once you are comfortable with that add the last X (Jump Kick) to it.

4. Once you are comfortable with the final attack sequence, put the whole Kombo together.

I think this one with a lot of practice could become a useful option.

Captain Marvel - 8. Lightning of Zeus (19% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward Triangle, Jump Forward Triangle, Jump Forward Square, Back Forward O

Jump Smack Down (Jump Forward Triangle)
Jump Smack Down (Jump Forward Triangle)
Jump Punch (Jump Forward Square)
Mercury Bearing Hug (Back Forward O)

1/3/09 5:05 PM - This move is pretty funny to watch because you get your opponent bouncing across the screen. The problem is timing or positioning yourself on the last move. I can only execute this move completely about every 3 out of 10 tries. Here are the steps.

1. Jump towards your opponent and press triangle to smack the opponet down.
2. Immediately jump towards your opponent again and do the exact same thing.
3. Immediately jump towards your opponent again and this time press Square.
4. At the very moment you feet hit the ground execute the Mercury Bearing Hug (Back Forward O)

This may take you a few times to execute. You may want to incorporate this into your live game play to intimidate your opponent. Even if you don't complete the whole move it still gets them bouncing around. However, don't expect any real damage from this. The entire Kombo only delivers 19% damage.

Captain Marvel - 7. Purity's Purge (18% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward X - Back Forward O

Jump Kick (Jump Forward X)
Mercury Bearing Hug (Back Forward O)

1/31/0 4:55 PM - I actually rated this one as difficult even though it only involves 2 moves. The problem I have with this one, is that it takes perfect timing, or so it seems for me. The key to my success, which has been limited, is to land the initial jump kick low on the opponents body. If you can land the kick at your opponents feet you should have better luck getting the Mercury Bearing Hug to execute. I currently only execute this Kombo successfully every 3 out of 10 tries. I know, that terrible. I have the same problem with Batman's Out of the Darkness Kombo. If you have a better technique for this please post a reply.

Captain Marvel - 6. Flash of Lightning (24% Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward Triangle, Down Back O, Triangle - X, Down Triangle

Jump Smackdown (Jump Forward Triangle)
Solomon Escape / Jump Smackdown (Down Back O, Triangle)
Stomach Crushing Knee (X)
Uppercut (Down Triangle)

1/31/09 4:40 PM - This another nice difficulty to damage ratio Kombo. This Kombo works best when you and your opponent are away from any walls. Here are the steps:

1. Execute the Jumping Smackdown by jumping towards your opponent and pressing triangle.

2. Immediately execute the Solomon Escape. This needs to be executed fast, immediately after the you press triangle. After you've executed the Solomon Escape press triangle again immediately. This should all be one quick sequence.

3. After you land your smackdown time a Stomach Crushing Knee (X) for when your opponent begins to descend from this move.

4. Immediately hold down and press triangle to finish the Kombo with a big damaging uppercut.

Practice this move for a while to get the timing. This is a nice Kombo to keep in your arsenal for when you need an air initiating attack.

Enjoy!!

Captain Marvel - 5. Claps of Thunder (36% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Square, Square, Down Back O, Triangle - Square, Square, X, Down Back Triangle

Stop Right There (Square, Square)
Solomon Escape / Jump Smackdown (Down Back O, Triangle)
Power of Gods (Square, Square, X)
Atlas Clap (Down Back Triangle)

1/31/09 4:20 PM - This is a moderately difficult Kombo. I can get his off about half of the time. There is just a lot going on. This is Captain Marvels best Kombo for the Difficulty to Damage Ratio. Here are the steps:

1. Initiate the Kombo with the Stop Right There sequence (Square, Square). Don't try to execute this in live game play unless your opponent is dazed from missing a special attack. Otherwise you will most likely get hit by a speedier inside attack of your opponent.

2. Immediately execute the Solomon Escape and immediatey press Triangle to execute the smack down. It may seem natural to wait until Captain Marvel falls down to the other side of the opponent but if you pause the game will not give you credit for completeing the Kombo even if it seems you did all the right attack moves.

3. After your opponent gets smacked down and bounces up, time your Power of Gods move (Square, Square, X) just as your opponent begins to fall to the ground.

4. Finally, execute your Atlas Clap (Down Back Triangle) immediately after the Power of Gods attack sequence.

Enjoy!!

Captain Marvel - 4. Shocking Surprise (26% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward Triangle - X, O, Down Back Square, * Back Forward Triangle

Jump Smack Down (Jump Forward Triangle)
Power of Wind (X, O)
Power of Zeus (Down Back Square)
Strength of Hercules (Back Forward Triangle)

1/31/09 3:55 PM - I don't know why I am so inconsistent with this move. It shouldn't be that difficult. Here are the steps:

1. Jump towards your opponent and press triangle to smack them down.

2. After you smack your opponent down they will bounce in the air. You will need to time your Power of Wind attack to start when they begin to descend. Up to this point I'm fine.

3. Then you will need to execute the Power of Zeus. This is where I'm inconsistent. Sometimes it get it to work but most of the time it doesn't. That's why I ranked this Kombo as difficult. If you do get this move initiated you will need to follow it with the Strength of Hercules which is easy. Just like I wrote in the Summoned Smackdown post you can skip pressing back and simply press forward triangle to complete the Kombo.

Please post your insight to this Kombo. I'm sure there is some technique to get more consistent to this.

Captain Marvel - 3. Power Descends (21% Very Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Back Square - Down Back Square, * Back Forward Triangle

Sky Scraper (Back Square)
Power of Zeus (Down Back Square)
Strength of Hercules (Back Forward Triangle)

1/31/09 3:30 PM - Like the Summonded Smack down this move is pretty easy. The only difference between the two moves is that this one starts off with a Sky Scraper. After you execute the Sky Scraper (Back Square) there is a very very brief pause before you start the Power of Zeus (Down Back Square). Like I said in my Summonded Smackdown post, to finish this Kombo you can skip pressing back on the Strength of Hercules and simply press Forward Triangle. Apparently the game still recognized teh back button from the Power of Zeus and counts it towards the Strength of Hercules move as well. Please post a reply if you find that is not the case for you.

Captain Marvel - 2. Catastrophic (30% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Back Square - Square, Square, O, Down Back Square

Sky Scraper (Back Square)
Punted Death (Square, Square, O)
Power of Zeus (Down Back Square)

1/31/09 2:55 PM - This is a moderately difficult move. Note: Make sure you do not have you opponent close to or pinned to the wall. If you do, this Kombo will not work as you practice it normally.

1. OK to start the move off you are going to execute the Sky Scraper which is a big backhand that knocks your opponent way in the air. In live game play don't try to execute this unless you've blocked a special move of your opponent and they are vunerable to this slow move.

2. After you knocked your opponent high in the air, execute the Punted Death Kombo (Square, Square, O) when you opponent is about mid way down from their decent. If you execute this too early you may miss the Punt at the end. If you execute this too late you will miss your opponent with the first Gut Crusher (Square) and your opponent will fall to the ground. This takes a little practice to get the timing down, but it's not too difficult.

3. Finally, end the Kombo with Power of Zeus (Down Back Square). This move should be executed immediately after the Punted Death Kombo (no pause).

Captain Marvel - 1. Summoned Smackdown (15% Very Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Down Back Square, * Back Forward Triangle

Power of Zeus (Down Back Square)
Strength of Hercules (Back Forward Triangle)

1/31/09 2:35 PM - You know, I really don't understand what the point of this Kombo is. In practice mode, it only takes away 15% which is the same amount of damage the Strength of Hercules move takes away by itself. Anyway, you if you are looking to complete the Kombo Challenge for Captain Marvel you will need to do this. This move is very easy. Start with the Power of Zeus (Down Back Square) and then press forward and Triangle without any pause to complete the "Sumoned Smackdown". Yes, that's right, you don't need to press the back button again. Apparently it recognized that you pressed back during the Power of Zeus and also counts that towards the Strength of Hercules. Pretty dang easy. If you think the Summoned Smackdown move does more damage than the Strength of Hercules, please post a reply.

Batman - 10. Bats (31% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Down Back Square - O, Triangle - Down Back Square

Sneaky Batarang (Down Back Square)
Over and Out (O, Triangle)
Sneaky Batarang (Dow Back Square)

1/25/09 10:35 PM - This one is all about timing the last Sneaky Batarang. Execute the first Sneaky Batarang. When you opponent is hit with it, your opponent will come towards you. Quickly press O, Triangle to execute the Over and Out. Here's the timing part. Immediately after you get off the first kick of the Triagle (Double Bat Kick) execute the last Sneaky Batarang. If done at the right time Batman will throw his Batarang and it will hit your opponent in mid air. This is a pretty nice 31% Kombo. Enjoy!

Batman - 9. Out of the Darkness (14% Very Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward X - Down Back O

Jump Kick (Jump Forward X)
Leg Take Down (Down Back O)

1/25/09 10:25 PM - This one is a little bit tricky but not too bad. The trick is to do a Jump Kick but to do it at the tip of your opponent's feet. In other words when you jump towards your opponent don't press X (the kick button) until your almost at the bottom of your jump, then immediately execute the Leg Take Down (Down Back O). You will get 14% damage. This isn't a bad idea to incorporate into your live game play as it give you a little extra damage if you are playing against an opponent that you need to execute a lot of Jump Kicks.

Batman - 8. Symbol of Justice (12% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward Triangle - Jump Forward Square - Down Forward Square

Jump Smack Down (Jump Forward Triangle)
Jump Punch (Jump Forward Square)
Aerial Batarang (Down Forward Square - in the air)

1/25/09 - 10:15 PM - This one isn't too difficult. Jump towards your opponent. When you are coming down press Triangle to do the Smack Down. Your opponent will get smacked down and bounce in the air. Immediately jump and press Square for a Jump Punch and immediately press Down Forward Square to execute the Aerial Batarang. I know the attack sequence has the pause "-" symbol in it, but you don't want to pause at all.

This is only 12% damage so it's not really worth incorporating into your live game play, unless you want to show off again.

Batman - 7. Nightstalker (41% Very Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: X, Back Square - O, X - Square, Square, Triangle, * Down Back O

Darkness (X, Back Square)
Over and Up (O, X)
Vengeance (Square, Square, Triangle)
Leg Take Down (Down Back O)

1/25/09 - 10:00 PM - This is a very difficult Kombo to pull off. Well atleast it was for me. It's really a cool looking Kombo too. I've only pulled it off 3 times out of like 50 tries. I know, pathetic... Here's how I approached this Kombo.

1. Practice the Vengeance to Leg Take Down enough times to where you're comfortable with that attack sequence. Actually, this is a nice Kombo unto itself at 19%. One thing to note about this sequence is that the Triangle button will execute the Double Back Kick if you wait too long to do the Leg Take Down. You want to execute the Leg Take Down before the second roundhouse. I know the full attack sequence has a "*" in it but you can execute the Leg Take Down immediately after the Vengeance attack sequence. Practice until your comfortable with it. Often times in this blog you'll notice that I practice the last part of the full Kombo before the first attack sequence. It makes it easier for me.

2. When your comfortable with the Vengeance to Leg Take Down, start at the beginning. Execute the Darkness to Over and Up which isn't difficult. There is timing involved to do this but it's not too difficult. The hard part is transitioning to the Vengeance from here. To do it, you need to press forward a bit to actually reach your opponent with the punches. Now execute the Vengeance to Leg Take Down. This is really hard,... atleast it is for me. If anyone has a better technique for accomplishing this PLEASE post a comment with your technique!!

Good Luck.

Batman - 6. Beg for Mercy (12% Very Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Back Square - X - Jump Forward X, Down Forward Square

Overhead Elbow (Back Square)
Twisting Hook Kick (X)
Jump Kick (Jump Forward X)
Aerial Batarang (Down Forward Square)

1/25/09 9:15 PM - This one frustrates me. And for only 21% damage I do not recommend spending much time on this after you finish it for the Kombo Challenge. Again, unless you like showing off there are way easier moves to perform for higher damage with Batman. Here's how I went about accomplishing this Kombo Challenge:

1. The hardest part about this move is executing the Jump Kick to Aerial Batarang. Practice enough to where you're are comfortable jump kicking in the air and throwing the Batarang in mid air. You're going to need to be able to get this off super quick.

2. Now, practice the Overhead Elbow to Twisting Hook Kick. This will smack your opponent to the ground. When they bounce up and begin their decent press X to execute the Twisting Hook Kick. There is only a slight pause before you need to press X.

3. Now for the hard part... You need to execute a Jump Kick, Aerial Batarang. Try the first few time doing the Kombo all the way up the Jump Kick. Once you are able to land a quick Jump Kick, then try doing the move all the way to the Jump Kick, Aerial Batarang Kombo. I had a tough time with this one. Please if anyone has a good technique to achieving this Kombo, please post!!

Unless there is an easier way to execute this Kombo this is not a practical live game move to try.

Batman - 5. Sneaky Batarang (36% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Down Back Square - X, Back Square - X, Triangle - Down Back Square

Sneaky Batarang (Down Back Square)
Darkness (X, Back Square)
Over and Out (X, Triangle)
Sneaky Batarang (Down Back Square)

1/25/09 9:10 PM - I've come to realize what a great Kombo this is. It's a little bit tricky to get off, but you can initiate it from a safe distance which is unlike most other character Kombos. Again, I'm really starting to like Batman. Ok, so here's how I practiced the Kombo. Use it if it helps:

1. I practiced throwing the Sneaky Batarang (Down Back Square) a few times because it is the first and last move you need to perform in this Kombo. Simple enough.

2. Now, practice the sequence from start to finish a little bit at a time. First try the Sneaky Batarang to Darkness sequence. The Darkness attack buttons need to be executed quickly (X, Back Square). This move will smack your opponent down and they will bounce into the air. Practice this a few times.

3. The next move in the sequence is Over and Out. As your opponent is making their decent from getting smacked down by Darkness press X, Triangle quickly to initiate the Over and Out move. This move will deliver the a series of kicks. Remember Triangle delivers a strait kick and then a roundhouse (aka Double Bat Kick). X (aka Twisting Hook Kick) delivers 2 kickes as well. Remember Over and Out (X, Triangle) in live game play as it delivers 20% damage for only pressing 2 attack buttons.

4. OK, enough about the Over and Out. The last part of this Kombo Challenge is the final Sneaky Batarang. Timing is key. Execute the Batarang (Down Back Square) when Batman is right about to connect with his second kick (roundhouse) from the Double Bat Kick (Triangle). If you press Down Back Square right when he's about to connect with the roundhouse you will get this move everytime.

Enjoy!!

Batman - 4. Predator (28% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Square, Square, Triangle - Down Forward Square, * Down Back Triangle

Vengeance (Square, Square, Triangle)
Batarang (Down Forward Square)
Smoke Capsule (Down Away Triangle)

1/25/09 7:35 PM - OK, remember Gotham's Hero Kombo Challenge? "Bop, Bop"? Yeah, I know, I'm a dork. The Gotham's Hero Kombo is the last part of this Kombo. You may want to practice again. Once you get the Batarange to Smoke Capsule "Bop, Bop" down go on to try the entire move from the top. OK, taking it from the top now...

When you execute the Vengeance attack sequence (Square, Square, Triangle) Batman will perform 2 kicks when you press triangle. The timing on this move is key. Do your Gotham's Hero "Bop, Bop" move immediately after Batman gets his first kick off. If you do this you will complete the Kombo Challenge no problem. I personally prefer Knightfall and Caped Crusader for 25+% damage because they are a bit easier in live game play.

Batman - 3. Caped Crusader (26% Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Back Square - Triangle - Down Forward O

Overhead Elbow (Back Square)
Double Bat Kick (Triangle)
Leaping Shadow Kick (Down Forward O)

1/25/09 7:10 PM - This is a pretty easy Kombo for 26% damage. Simply practice the timing of when to press Triangle to initiate the Double Bat Kick (very slight pause) and you'll get this one. I really didn't recognize any need for a pause between this move and the Leaping Shadow Kick, but if you do pause, you have time to press Down Forward O, because Batman executes two kicks when you press Triangle. Pretty easy. I'm starting like using Batman. Use this as a practical move in live game play.

Batman - 2. Knightfall (28% Very Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Back Square - O, X, Down Back O

Overhead Elbow (Back Square)
Over and Up (O, X)
Leg Takedown (Down Back O)

1/25/09 - 6:00 PM - I love this move because it's not too difficult to get and it takes out 28% damage. Even if you don't do the Overhead Elbow at the beginning and just to the Over and Up to Leg Takedown you delivering 27% damage. So, it's really not practical in game play to do the Overhead Elbow unless you're just looking to show off. Anyway, you need to complete the whole move to complete the Kombo Challenge, so here are my tips.

1. First practice the Over and Up to Leg Takedown move until the attack sequence is natural to you. Like I said above this one is pretty easy.

2. Once you are comfortabe with the last part of the Kombo, try executing it by starting off with the Overead Elbow. The trick this is the very slight pause before you go into the Over and Up. You will most likely have to practice this a bit. Note if you don't give a slight pause before you go into the Over and Up you will miss your opponent. If you pause for too long your opponent will fall to the ground ending the Kombo.

Batman - 1. Gotham's Hero (12% Very Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Down Forward Square, * Down Back Triangle

Batarang (Down Forward Square)
Smoke Capsule (Down Back Triangle)

1/24/09 7:00 PM - This is not to difficult to complete. It just takes a little practice. To execute this Kombo you have to quickly perform the Smoke Capsule move after the Batarang, however if you do it to fast it won't work. After you practice this move 10 times you should get the quick timing down.

1/25/09 - 7:30 PM - OK, if you come back to this move you may forget the timing. I can't believe I'm going to share this, but I found it helpful to say, "Bop, Bop", to help me remember the timing. So while I was practice this my wife was hearing me say, "Bop, Bop"... "Bop, Bop"... "Bop, Bop". I know get a life right. Hopefully this helps someone. Also, you should practice this move thouroughly because you will need to execute it again at the end of the #4 Kombo Challange, Predator. "Bop, Bop", lol.

Baraka - 10. Stabby Stabby (48% Very Difficult)

Kombo Challege: Fists Only, Back X, Back Triangle - Back X, Back Back X, * Forward Forward Triangle - Triangle Triangle O, Forward Forward Triangle.

Start with blades retracted (Fists only)
Tarkatan Chop (Back X, Back Triangle)
Hop Roundhouse (Back X)
Chop Chop Blades (Back Back X)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)
Tears of Pain (Triangle Triangle O)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)

1/21/09 11:45 PM - This is pretty difficult to complete but can be done with some practice. I recommend breaking these Kombos into 3 practice sessions.

1. It shouldn't be that difficult to get the first two combinations in the sequence off. Witht the Tarkatan Chop it's a little bit difficult to start this off because it requires you to press back and X. If pressing back moves you away from your opponent a bit you can still execut the move since it is intiated by a Hop Roundhouse. Keep holding back when you transition to the Triange to finish the Tarkaan chop. You will then want to briefly let go of the back button so you don't move any further away and the press a back and X at the same time to execute the second Hop Roundhouse. Practice this a few times.

2. Next you will need to execute the Chop Chop Blades. This is a bit tricky because you are already holding back and X for your Hop Roundhouse. You will need to get conditioned to press Back Back X immediately after you initiate the Hop Roundhouse sequence. Once you get Baracka's Chop Chop Blades going you will need to initiate a power Scrape Kick. You should be used to these by now, from previous Kombo Challenges.

3. Finally to end the Kombo you will need to get off the Tears of Pain and Scrape Kick moves. To get the Tears of Pain move off you will need to step forward a little bit after you execute the power Scrape Kick. When your opponent is on their way down press Triangle, Triangle, O. Remember to only press the buttons once. Just like the Cut to Ribbons Kombo any extra taps will cause this Kombo not to work. You will then need to quickly press Forward Forward Triangle to execute the last Scrape Kick.

If you piece these Kombo sequences together you can get off a sick 48% damage move. This is it for Baraka's Kombos. If you have any questions or comments please do not hesitate to post them.

Baraka - 9. Cut to Ribbons (41% Very Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Fists Only, Triangle, Triangle, Down Forward O - Back X, Back Triangle - Triangle, Triangle, O, Back Back X, * Forward Forward Triangle

Double Cuts (Triangle, Triangle)
Blade Cyclone (Down Forward O)
Tarkatan Chop (Back X, Back Triangle)
Tears of Pain (Triangle, Triangle, O)
Chop Chop Blades (Back Back X)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)

1/21/09 10:50 PM - This one was difficult for me to complete for one reason only. Transitioning from the Tears of Pain move to the Chop Chop Blades. (I'll get to this).

1. The first part of the Kombo is Double Cuts (Triangle, Triangle). Simple.

2. The second part is a transition into the Blade Cyclone (Down Forward O). If you are not careful to do the down forward directional pad in sequence you may execute a Tears of Pain move. It should only take you a few practice tries to get the Double Cuts to Blade Cyclone transition.

3. Next is the Tarkatan Chop move (Back X, Back O). This is a back kick to upper cut (sort of). Anyway, after you execute it in the Kombo it will knock your opponent way in the air.

4. Pause until your opponent is on the way down and the execute the Tears of Pain move (Triangle, Triangle, O). It is EXTREMELY important that you only tap each button once. My biggest issue was that I was tapping Triangle, Triangle O, O. I was hitting the O twice without really even noticing it. If you do what I did, you will never be able to transition into the next move...

5. Which is the Chop Chop Blades. If you only tapped Triangle Triangle O you should have no problem with executing the Chop Chop Blades (Back Back X). The main thing you need to focus on is to confidently execute the Tears of Pain move without hitting any extra buttons. You still need to quickly press Back Back X for this but it should work.

6. Finally, if you are so skilled to get the Double Cuts to Blade Cyclone to Tarkatan Chop to Tears of Pain to Chop Chop Blades off, be prepared to press forward forward Triangle at just the right time to execute the power Scrape Kick. The way I get this to work, is when Baraka starts the Chop Chop Blades, I start pressing forward repeatedly until right before he finishes cutting up his opponent and then press Triangle. Unlike the attack button sequences, I have found that with moves which require tapping the directional pad in the same direction twice, it doesn't hurt to press them repeatedly ahead of the attack button.

Frankly, I like the Love of Battle move better. It's easier to execute and you get 43% damage.

Baraka - 8. Love of Battle (43% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Fists Only, Jump Forward Square, X, Down Forward O - Back X, O, Square, Square, X, Forward Forward Triangle

Start with your blades retracted (Fists Only)
Jump Punch & Kick Combo (Jump Forward Square, X)
Blade Cyclone (Down Forward O)
Nail and Impale (Back X, O)
Feasting on You (Square, Square, O)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)

1/21/09 9:30 PM - This one really isn't that hard with a little practice. Practice jumping in and rolling your right thumb over Square and X to get off your punch kick Kombo. Immediatley role your left thumb on the directional pad forward down and press O to execute the Blade Cyclone. Practice this sequence a few times until you get it off consitently. The nice thing about the Blade Cyclone is that you get to pause for a momement until Baraka finishes his spinning. Remember to wait until his wait shifts back after he comes to a stop. Then execute the Nail and Impale move (Back X, O). This will send your opponent flying in the air. After a very brief pause execute the Feasting on You Kombo (Square, Square, O). I kept messing up here trying to remember the right buttons to press. I had to just practice the Feasting no You Kombo on its own to condition myself to press Square, Square, O each time.

Note: if you try practicing the Feasting on You to Scrape Kick move, it will be extrememly difficult to get off without doing the entire Kombo sequence. I'm not sure why, but I guess you the Feasting on You move knocks your opponent higher in the air.

Once you've become comfortable from the beginning of the Kombo sequence to the Feasting on You move finish the Kombo with a Scrape Kick (Forward, Forward, Triangle). It's not that hard and this move delivers 43% damage.

1/23/09 12:20 AM - This is by far the easiest move with the most damage. Master this and you will have an air attack that does some serious damage. In applying it to actual fights it's difficult to get off because most opponents are blocking or ready to deliver a massive upper cut to you, so be careful. Choose your opportunities wisely.

1/24/09 11:30 PM - If you are looking to deliver serious damage, this is the Kombo to practice.

Baraka - 7. Tarkatan Takedown (29% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Back X, O, Down O, Triangle, Triangle, Down Back Square

Nail and Impale (Back X, O)
Change Stance (Down O)
Double Cuts (Triangle, Triangle)
Sharp Spark (Down Back Square)

1/14/09 8:55 PM - This move is moderately difficult. I approached it by practicing the last part of the Kombo first. Press Triangle, Triangle, Down Back Square really fast to perform the Double Cuts to Sharp Spark. Once you've completed this 3 hit Kombo successfully a few times practice the Nail and Impale (Back X, O). This should be easy. I found the hardest part of this Kombo was the Change Stance (Down O). The transition to Down O is awekward as well as the transition from Down O to the Double Cuts. You just need to get used to the timing. It takes some conditioning to get the Kombo all the way through the Double Cuts. I practiced this Kombo and was pressing Triangle 3 times instead of 2 just for reinforcement of transitioning to the Triangle. Once I trained myself to complete this sequence a few times in a row. I then forced myself to only tap Triangle twice and attempt the Sharp Spark. This took some conditioning but only a little since I practiced this first. If you can quickly go from the Stance Change to the Double Cut, you should have enough time to get off the Sharp Spark with ease. This Kombo is not that hard after you practice it through several times. One thing I've been trying to do is keep practicing the Kombo even after I've reached Success. I keep trying until I can execute it 3 times in a row. Note, you do not need to go back to the previous trial to practice your Kombos. You can do them even when you've advanced to a new Kombo trial. You just won't get the "Success" displayed.

Baraka - 6. Outworld's Wasteland (36% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Down Forward O, Back X, Back Triangle - Back X, Square, Forward Forward Triangle

Blade Cyclone (Down Forward O)
Tarkatan Chop (Back X, Back Triangle)
Horror (Back X, Square)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)

See the #6 Demo
http://mkdc-pro-moves.blogspot.com/2009/01/baraka-all-kombo-challanges.html

1/13/09 9:15 PM - Wow this one is tough. I've managed to execute this only 3 times out of more than 50 tries. There are 4 difficulties I've found with this move:

1. Timing when to initiate the back kick (Back X) after the Blade Cyclone

OK, this isn't to difficult. After Baraka does his Blade Cyclone he finishes by lowering his arms. You will notice when he is coming to a stop plants his feet and the momentum sways him a bit. His arms will rock back and forth slightly. It's at this point, right before his arms are coming to rest, that I've found initiating the Back X, Back Triangle - Back X, Square sequence is most effective.

2. The brief pause between the upper cut (Back Triangle) and the next back kick (Back X)

If you just hold back and press X, Triangle, X,... the second X (back kick) will execute too early. You will need a very, very slight pause after the Triangle and then press Back X, Square. (Very, Very Slight, almost none) If you are holding back the whole time you may take a slight step back during the slight pause. I'm not sure yet if this hurts your chances of completing the entire Kombo. I'll trying to pay a little more attention to this and report back.

3. Rembering the attack button sequence

I had a really hard time conditioning myself just to press the right attack button sequence. (Back X, Back Triangle - Back X, Square). The second part was most difficult for me to remember. The only word of advice I can give is practice this over and over until the motions feel natural.

4. Having the discipline to only press the attack buttons once during the sequence

It was so hard for me to just press the attack buttons once. When intiating the attack sequence (Back X) you will know if you tapped X twice because Baraka will perform two back kicks instead of doing the (Back Triangle) upper cut. This will happen even if you just barrelly hit X twice. The same thing goes for the back kick after he slight pause. If you accidentally hit X twice it will kick instead of punch.

5. Finishing the Kombo with a Scrape Kick

This is hard because you have to be pressing forward forward really fast after the Square punch. If you press forward to soon your square punch will turn into a knock down punch. If you start pressing forward forward to late you will not get the Scrape Kick off in time. This is really frustrating because I feel the attack sequence is hard enough with out this. I would be very interested if anyone has some tips on how to more affectively get this last move off.

Overall, you will need condition yourself by practicing this over and over.

1/21/09 9:00 PM - One of the things I naturally find myself doing at the end of this Kombo is tapping triangle several times instead of Forward Forward. Obviously you don't want to do this. I'm just pointing this out because it seemed natural to me even though it was the wrong sequence. I contiously have to remember to press the Forward Forward button fast at the end of the Horror Kombo. When I do, it works.

1/24/09 11:25 PM - Like the Shear of Doom Kombo you should focus on this Kombo as your primary Kombo to use in game play given it's difficulty to damage ratio. Enjoy!

Baraka - 5. Shear of Doom (35% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Without Blades, Back X, O - Square, Square, Triangle, Back Back X

1/12/09 8:50 PM - Watch the #5 video on this one.
http://mkdc-pro-moves.blogspot.com/2009/01/baraka-all-kombo-challanges.html
Baraka will start off with a back kick and will unleash his blades driving them upward into his opponent. He will then perform 2 horizontal swipes and one vertical swipe finishing with a Chop Chop special move. So let's dissect this this. Start off with your blades retracted. Get close to your opponent and press Back X, O. The Back X will deliver the back kick and the circle will unleash his blades and drive your opponent upward. BTW, that's pretty cool that you get all that from just pressing O. Pause for a split second and initiate the square, Square, Triangle sequence when your opponent begins his decent. If you are successful you'll get 3 swipes off. Note: If you press Triangle more than once you will not get the Kombo Challenge off, but rather finish with a big upward blade swipe, finishing you with a 27% Kombo. Not bad, and not that difficult to get off. Now, I was able to get the Chop Chop off after this extra Triangle swipe giving me a 37% Kombo, but it did not give me credit for the completing the Kombo Challenge since I had one too many Triangle swipes. This was definitely harder to get off. The best thing you can do is practice the Square, Square, Triangle sequence enough to where you're comfortable doing that every time. To get the Chop Chop off I think you need to be pressing Back, Back will you are finishing your Square, Square, Triangle sequence, I think. I'm far from perfecting this, but I can complete this Kombo about 25% of the time now. This Kombo will apply 35% damage to your opponent.

1/24/09 11:20 PM - After doing all the Kombo Challenges this one turns out to me a moderaly difficult move. This is worth focusing on as your primary Kombo given the damage to difficulty ration. Enjoy!!

Baraka - 4. Killer Kuts (27% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: With blades out, Jump Forward Triangle - Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle, Forward Forward Triangle

Unleash Blades (O)
Jumping Smack Down (Triangle)
Open Wound (Square, Square)
Double Cuts (Triangle, Triangle)
Scrape Kick (Forward, Forward Triangle)

1/12/09 7:55 PM - Take my word on this, practice the Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle combo on the ground first. It delivers 2 horizontal blade swipes and then 2 vertical blade swipes. If you hit Square 3 times (which I kept doing) it will end the Kombo prematurely. So be very deliberate to only tap Square twice before switching to Triangle, Triangle. OK, once you've conditioned yourself to only press Square twice, then try adding the last part of the Kombo (Forward Forward Triangle). I'm no where near perfecting this part. You will need to do the Scrap Kick before your opponent hits the ground, so be tapping forward forward while you are hitting your first 2 triangles (I think). This is how I got it to work (once). Now practice the initial Kombo sequence by jumping towards your opponent. Make sure your blades are drawn. Hit O if they are not. OK, after jumping towards your opponent and hitting him in the head with a Triangle smack down blow, move "slightly" towards your opponent and initiate your Square, Square, Triangle, Triangle... sequence. Once you make contact with your first square you won't need to push forward. The sequence will naturally pull you forward. You will need to practice initiating the Square, Square sequence because if you start it to soon you will swing under your opponent in the air. If you initiate the Square, Square sequence to late your opponent will fall to the ground ending the Kombo. After practicing this, try putting the entire sequence together. I'm still working on the timing of the final Scrap Kick. If you get this off, it inflicts 27% damage. Let me know if you have any suggestions on this one.

Baraka - 3. Skinned Alive (16% Difficult)

Kombo Challenge: Jump Forward X - Forward Forward Triangle

Jump Kick (Jump Forward X)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)

1/11/09 11:15 PM - This one is hard. I think I'm just not quick enough. I managed to get this challenge completed by jumping over the opponent. I was next to the wall and after jumping over him and kicking him he bounced off the wall and I got the "Scrape Kick" to connect. After 20 attempts, I still haven't been able to repeat it.

1/14/09 9:50 PM - It really helps if you get your opponent near a wall. Also, I've had success with the Scrape Kick landing after an aerial kick very late. By late, I mean Baraka has almost landed on the ground. I have also had success jumping over my opponent and kicking late followed by a Scrape Kick. Hope this helps. Personally, I don't think this Kombo is worth the 16% damage it gives you.

Baraka - 2. Baraka Beatdown (25% Moderate)

Kombo Challenge: Back Back X, * Forward Forward Triangle - Down Back Square

Chop Chop Blades (Back Back X)
Scrape Kick (Forward Forward Triangle)
Sharp Spark (Down Back Square)

1/11/09 10:10 PM - After trying this move over and over again, I found myself getting lightning quick with the Back Back X (Chop Chop Blades). This is a good thing because it means I don't need to keep jumping back and forth to get the Back Back X off in the right position. If you are not fast enough yet, I recommend starting this move off from a jump length away. While you are jumping towards your opponent, be pressing Back, Back, repeatedly until you land, then press X to begin the Chop Chop Blades move. The Kombo Challenge has a * indicating that you need to initiate the next sequence with special timing. I have found that immediately after I begin the Chop Chop Blades move, if I start pressing Forward, Forward, repeatedly, I can get the Scrape Kick move by pressing Triangle just as Baraka is finishing his Chop Chop move. You'll know if you got this off because your opponent will go flying way in the air. The next part is the hardest in my opinion. You need to get of a Sharp Spark by pressing Down Back Square. So far the best luck I've had is if I execute this while Baraka is kicking the opponent up and I roll the directional pad Down Forward, rather than pressing the directional pad in the down forward angle. You need to get the "Sharp Spark" off fast. Try executing it almost before Baraka has finished with his big kick up. This move is a bit harder because it involves different directions and different attack buttons. Please let me know if you find any useful techniques for this or have any helpful suggestions.

1/11/09 10:35 PM - OK, using the techniques I described above, I've pretty much can get this off about 50% of the time now.

1/12/09 7:15 PM - The Sharp Spark needs to be executed a just the right time. I'm getting better at it. I'll try to post a technique for get off the Sharp Spark on time. You will have a little more time to get it off if your opponent is backed against a wall.

1/14/09 9:40 PM - This one gets easier after you've completed some of the harder Kombos. It just takes conditioning. This is not a bad Kombo to master for 25% damage.

Baraka - 1. Deadly Drool (17% Very Easy)

Kombo Challenge: Down Forward O - Down Forward O

Blade Cyclone (Down Forward O)
Blade Cyclone (Down Forward O)

1/11/09 9:15 PM - So far I can not pull this move off consistently. However, if I tap down forward O repeatedly, I can get this move off about 1 out of every 3 attempts I try. Typically when I execute one Blade Cyclone move, I role the directional pad from down to forward and then press O. You will know when you pull this move off because Baraka ends with a big backhand that sends our opponent flying.

1/11/09 9:55 PM - The faster I repeat the Down Forward O, the better my results. Also, instead of rolling Down Forward, I have been pressing it at the same time with slightly better results. Please post back if you have a better technique for achieving this every time.

1/12/09 6:45 PM - OK, forget what i said above. After watching the Youtube video of all Baraka's Kombo Challenges, I noticed there is a definite pause before you execute the second Blade Cyclone. To pull this off every time you need to start pressing Down Forward O when Baraka is coming out of his first Blade Cyclone. Wait until you see his arm lowers out of the spin. You will know if you pulled off the actual Kombo by if your second Blade Cyclone ends with a big back hand.

1/14/09 9:25 PM - As you use Baraka and attempt his later Kombos you will get used to the timing of when to begin executing the next sequence of attacks after the Blade Cyclone. Observe how he finishes his Blade Cyclone. It looks like his arms over rotate when he's coming to a stop and then rock back to a normal position. When his arms rock back this is when you should execute the next sequence of attack buttons. In this case it's simply another Blade Cyclone.

Getting Good at Kombos

One of the nice game modes for Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe is the Kombo Challenge. It allows you to practice high damage Kombos on a target that doesn't fight back. Each character has 10 Kombos that you are challenged to execute. After you choose a character in the Kombo Challenge you will see the Kombo sequence at the top of the screen. There are special characters you will need to know about in the sequence.

- Means a slight pause before you press the next attach button
* Means special timing

Other images may appear for certain characters. For example, a fist image or blade image for Baraka's different fighting stances.

Each of the Kombos takes practice. I am writing a blog on each Kombo by each character to document my experience and provide insight, tips and tricks to executing these Kombos. You will also find information about the amount of damage each Kombo delivers and my personal rating:

Rating Scale (Number of successful executions on 10 tries)
1. Very Easy: 8/10 or better
2. Easy: 6/10 or 7/10
3. Moderate: 4/10 or 5/10
4. Difficult: 2/10 or 3/10
5. Very Difficult: 0/10 or 1/10
